Ahhh! I keep forgetting to post here! I liked in class this week that the field essays had common themes each day for the most part. Writing mine reemphasized for me the struggle I have with crafting a story from the truth. Mine ended up being very we did this and then we did this over and over again. I was also faced with the challenge in this last essay of writing about something I'm not removed from yet, which was more difficult. I find that this kind of writing is best executed about something far in the past. The time away from it would make it easier to reflect and have perspective on it. It would also make it easier to describe people, which as we talked about in class can be difficult with people we know. The last thing that time away would help with is weaving a story. It would allow the writer to have a larger pool of memories to pick from. I think that age will come in handy with non-fiction too because the older you are the more experiences you have. All in all, I am still struggling with writing non-fiction, but I think I have a better understanding of how it is supposed to be.
