"The average high school student has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the 1950's"
This astonishes me. A high school student? College is so much more work. What does that say about us? Because we go to college we are psychotic ? It is not our fault that we get so overwhelmed by the work that most teachers assign us. This makes me question the importance of school, obviously I know it is important to get an education so you can get a good job, it's not even an option anymore it is required. But is our stress and anxiety level worth it? It's not even guaranteed that we can get a job after graduating, it is still "survival of the fittest" in the job world.
Is it because of all the pressure that is put on to not only complete the assignment on time but to get a good grade as well ? Is there something different we as students need to do differently? obviously, stop procrastinating but even then I still feel like I don't ever have enough time to do a good job and come up with a product that I actually like, especially in writing.
Writing classes to me are a little better, they take into account that it takes time to write. It is a time consuming process and a lot of the time the product is still unfinished but it is the best it can be in the time we have, we say, "okay, I guess this is presentable".
This week especially, I feel pressure, forced almost to write and I never like the product when I am forced to write something. I am a nervous breakdown away from dropping out of college, who knows maybe I'll end up in a psych ward.
Oh please don't end up in a psych ward! This is a stressful time (we all needed a vacation about a week ago), and writing assignments certainly add to it. My hope, however, is that the idea that one writes badly to write well ultimately makes writing less stressful. You don't have to waste time simply staring at a blinking cursor. Lower your standards and write. At least the, you have something to work with.
